STEVE'S BEST - February 2004
Great time of year for sports fans

Football season officially ended last night. One of the strangest Super Bowls on record. No one expected such a great game. From scoreless to scoreful, New England Patriots beat the Carolina Panthers with a field goal with five seconds left to play. What was touted to be a defensive gem, started out that way. But at halftime, both teams took point scoring pills, and both delivered what might be called the most exciting Super Bowl ever. Both defensives left the stadium at halftime, while both offenses went up and down field almost at will. Points galore, long passes, opportune passes, third and longs made. Both quarterbacks played great games, it is truly a shame that one had to lose this game. If you taped this game, it will be fun to watch over and over again. At the Super Bowl party we attended, we all entered into a blind pool. With the game as close as it was, there was screaming and cheering the whole game, especially at halftime when Janet Jackson “accidentally” exposed herself to the world…..but back to the game. The players must have seen this happen because the second half was played with a lot more inspiration then the first half. For the record, my son almost won the second quarter payoff, but he lost to his mom/my wife, who also won the third quarter when no one scored. Great fun for my wife, an emotional loss of $17 for my son.

Great friends, great party and a great game!

I’m sorry, but I can’t help think that the Chiefs should have been there. The Chiefs – from hopeful to hopeless in 18 weeks. The season began with goals of Championships and Superbowl victories. Lead by one of the best coaches of all time. The offense was very solid: Trent Green, Priest Holmes and T Richardson, a great offensive line, Dante Hall and a host of receivers that would make the difference. The issue was the defense, so the Chiefs added five strong players to strengthen the unit. They thought bringing in new talent would help, even though it would be coached by Greg Robinson, who for the last two years has lead the worst defense in the league. It was said that his scheme was too difficult and players could not buy into it. We found out that to be the case. After a 9 and 0 start, the defense resigned, and the team lost 4 of its next 7 games, including the big one. The season that “should have been” is over and so is Greg Robinson’s reign in KC. Welcome back, Gunther!!!!

Baseball season is almost here. The Royals are ready to go. Pena is in charge. The youth movement has become a senior tour event. It will be interesting to see how the maturity of the new additions will work with the younger players on the team.

For the millions of you who play Fantasy Football and Fantasy Baseball, this issue will have the first ever Fantasy Sports section in it. We will introduce the Fantasy concept, how the leagues are run and what to expect. We will have notes each month plus a write in section for your questions/comments.

Did you know? The KC Knights play basketball here, the Minutemen play football here, the Kansas City Krunch, a Women’s football team, plays here and the Kansas City Blues, a professional Rugby team, play here? KC is a great sports town.

Enjoy the issue
